The history of Audi goes back to 1899 , when an engineer August Horch established an automobile company August Horch & Cie. Few years later he left this company and established another one in 1909 named August Horch Automobilwerke GmbH. There was some controversies in him using “Horch” as a trade name again for his second company so he changed the name to Audi Automobilwerke GmbH in 1910.
In 1932 , Audi Automobilewerke merged with three other companies which were DKW , Wanderer and Horch. They together formed Auto Union AG. In 1985 , Auto Union AG became a single company – Audi.
Why the name “AUDI”?
The name AUDI comes from the last name of founder “August Horch”.The word “Horch” in German means “listen/hear”. In Latin , “listen” is “AUDI” , hence the name of the company. The slogan for the company is ” Advancement through Technology”.
Journey of AUDI Logo:
- In 1909 when Audi was founded , the logo was upside down triangle with #1 on the top. It reflected the stature and reputation of the company as being the no. 1.
- In 1932 , when Audi merged with three other automobile companies ,the logo changed into four interlocking rings with each having the logo of individual brands.
- Later, in 1980s the company got a single name Audi and the logo transformed into four shinning sliver rings interlocked and overlapping. The four rings are three-dimensional and symbolizes the power of Audi.
