UAN stands for “Universal Account Number”
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Universal Account Number on Oct 1, 2014 to provide Provident Fund number portability. Employees’ Provident Fund Organization generates this 12-digit number for each member who is contributing to EPF.
Purpose of UAN:
UAN will be used to link multiple Member IDs allotted to an individual by different establishments. UAN allotted to a member will not change throughout the lifetime. When an individual changes the job, he will just have to tell the UAN to the new organization and they will link the new Member ID to the UAN. This would help in keeping the track of the all Member IDs. It’s your employer who provides you your UAN.
Once you get your UAN, visit the UAN based Member Portal website i.e.
Initially, you will have to activate UAN by selecting a link given ‘ACTIVATE YOUR UAN’ on the Member Portal. You should have UAN, Mobile and Member ID readily available to activate UAN on the Member Portal.
